The Nigeria Police Force has summoned Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi to Abuja as part of an ongoing investigation into a violent incident during the Sallah festivities in Kano.
On March 30, 2025, a violent clash reportedly involving members of Sanusi’s entourage led to the death of a vigilante and left others injured.
Following the incident, the Kano State Police Command arrested a 20-year-old suspect, Usman Sagiru, from Sharifai Quarters, in connection with the attack.
Security Agencies have also initiated an inquiry and invited Alhaji Wada Isyaku, the Shamakin Kano, for questioning.
In an official letter dated April 4, 2025, and signed by the Commissioner of Police (Operations), CP Olajide Rufus Ibitoye, Sanusi was directed to appear at the Force Intelligence Department in Abuja on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.
The letter stated that the invitation was issued on the orders of the Inspector General of Police.
The letter reads: “I have the directives of the Inspector General of Police, through the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Intelligence Department (FID) to invite you for an investigative meeting regarding an incident that occurred during the Sallah celebration within your domain.”
“In view of the above, you are hereby invited to Force Intelligence Department, opposite Police Force Headquarters Area 11, Abuja by 1000hrs of Tuesday 8th of April, 2025. Your availability is highly sought for a purposeful investigation. ”
“Accept the warm regards of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, please.”
Leading up to the celebration, security agencies had issued warnings restricting durbar displays, citing concerns over public safety and order.
Despite these directives, Sanusi proceeded with the traditional celebrations, which included the Durbar procession that attracted large crowds and media attention.
The event also included a visit to the government house as part of the Hawan Nasarawa.
