The Abia State Government has refuted claims circulating online that it had engaged the Eastern Security Network (ESN) to combat Fulani herdsmen and protect farmers within the state.
Addressing the allegation, the Special Assistant to Governor Alex Otti on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ferdinand Ekeoma, clarified that the report was entirely false and aimed at inciting tension and disaffection among the public.
He described the post, allegedly made by a blogger, as “malicious and misleading.”
According to Ekeoma, “It’s important to state that the above statement is false, malicious, and misleading, and has nothing to do with the Abia state government led by Governor Alex Otti.
The post is intended to create disaffection and cause unnecessary tension in the state.”
He further explained that although a similar fake report had surfaced weeks earlier, the state government had initially chosen to ignore it.
However, given the growing circulation, it was necessary to set the record straight.
“For the records, the Abia State government, under the leadership of Dr. Alex Otti, could not have contemplated embracing the services of non-state actors to fight criminals and insecurity of any kind in any part of the state,” he added.
Ekeoma emphasized that the state remains committed to constitutional security mechanisms and has confidence in the nation’s security forces.
He cited the creation of the joint security task force known as “Operation Crush,” which has reportedly achieved significant success in curbing criminal activities across the state.
He warned individuals spreading fake information and engaging in “dirty politics” to desist from acts capable of endangering public safety, adding that there would be consequences for anyone found inciting fear and violence.
The government urged Abians to disregard the falsehood and continue supporting efforts to maintain peace and security in the state.
