The Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has warned the residents of Ile-Ife from attaching communal colouration to the killing of farmers in Toro village, Modakeke. adding that the act was one of sheer criminality.

He said efforts to attach communal colouration to the crime was an attempt by mischief makers to distract security operatives, who are on top of the matter, from unveiling the evil minds behind the crime.

The Ooni, who was speaking through a statement issued by the Director, Media and Public Affairs, Ooni’s Palace, Mr Moses Olafare, stated that he received the news of the reported killing of the five farmers in Toro village on Friday morning with great concern.

He disclosed that upon receiving the information, it was immediately reported to the appropriate security agencies who swung into action.

The monarch reminded the people that Nigeria, like other countries in the world, is being confronted by security challenges which with the cooperation of all citizens would be overcome.

Stating unequivocally, Ooni Ogunwusi stated that the killings should not be linked to the long resolved Ife-Modakeke dispute assuring that the long arm of the law will soon catch up with the perpetrators of the crime.

The traditional ruler thanked the state government, security agencies and vigilante groups for their role in sustaining the peace and being responsive to the situation.

He also called on all law abiding residents of both towns to carry on with their legitimate activities as the evil mond behind the dastardly act did not represent any of the community and as such would be treated as criminals when apprehended.
