The police have received a lot of criticism on social media platforms for allowing the event to happen despite earlier on warning people to stay at home. Critics have pointed out that the police failed to stop the Covid-19 “Super Spreader” concert despite the fact, that Matapi Police Station is located a few blocks from where the event was hosted. Mbare Police Station is also near the venue although not as close as Matapi Police Station.
Speaking on the arrests of the organisers of the Mbare “Passa Passa” national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi told ZBC News,
“We are conducting investigations and so far indications are that 52 people were arrested when police moved in to stop this bash, and we are told Fantan has a studio in Mbare where he puts speakers outside and plays music. He is now on the run. Police are currently looking for him.
We want to assure the public that definitely, action will be taken. We are also conducting investigations to find out what really the police officers on the ground did… what role they played” according to Pindula News.
The government has been heavily pilloried as the Passa Passa was advertised weeks in advance yet law enforcement officials failed to take action despite issuing warnings and threats to would-be miscreants.
