An Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting at Ibadan on Thursday remanded one Mustafa Afeez, 27, at the Agodi Correctional Centre, Ibadan, for the alleged murder of a two and half year’s old girl in Ibadan.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Olalekan Adegbite arraigned the defendant, who resides at the Olodo area in Ibadan, on a charge of murder.
Adegbite while presenting the case told the court that the defendant had on July 30, allegedly unlawfully caused the death of a minor.
“Mustapha was alleged to have thrown her into the Omi river, Ahoyaya area, Olodo, in Ibadan.
“The child was alleged to have been missing in the area before her body was found in the river the next day,’’ Adegbite said.
He said the offence was committed on July 30, at about 9 p.m. at Ahoyaya area, Olodo, Ibadan.
According to him, the offence contravened Section 316 and is punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
However, the Magistrate, Mrs. Serifat Adesina, who refused to take the plea of the defendant, ordered his remand at the Correctional Centre, pending advice from the Oyo State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP)’s advice.
Adesina, thereafter, adjourned the matter until Oct. 7, for a mention, NAN reports.
