Romelu Lukaku's future is completely up in the air

Romelu Lukaku's immediate future is one of uncertainty and the striker does not have a clear idea where he will be turning up for pre-season training next month.

There is an element of every club waiting for another to kick into action so their own transfer window can truly start and the situation surrounding Lukaku is no different.

Manchester United are open to selling the 26-year-old but are not absolutely desperate if no suitable bids are forthcoming.

Ed Woodward would want to recoup up to £80million having shelled out an initial £75m when purchasing him from Everton two years ago.

That figure is actually significantly closer to £90m after a number of additional clauses were quickly triggered and the desire to retrieve a similar figure will doubtless lengthen negotiations with any interested party.

Inter Milan are keen and Lukaku relishes the thought of linking up with new manager Antonio Conte, who fought so hard to beat United to his signature while at Chelsea.

Indeed, Lukaku was actually more enthused by the prospect of Chelsea with Conte before United struck a deal with Mino Raiola in 2017. Lukaku recently left Raiola, now represented by Federico Pastorello.

Conte likes a big physical striker leading his line in a way Ole Gunnar Solskjaer simply does not. Fernando Llorente occupied the role at Juventus, Diego Costa at Chelsea too (even allowing for a personality clash).
