APGA: Northern Branch Demands Office Of National Chairman, Others

Ahead of the forthcoming elective National Convention of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) a group of stakeholders of the party from the northern part of the country has demanded that the position of the National Chairman be zoned to them.

The group also requested for equity in the distribution of other offices of the party in line with the  Federal Character principle and zoning arrangement endorsed by the constitution of the party.

The demand is contained in a Communique the stakeholders issued at the end of its meeting in Kaduna and made available to journalists.

In attendance at the meeting were Alhaji Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, governorship candidate of APGA in the last election in Zamfara and  former National Secretary/ Secretary of the party’s Board of Trustees, Dr Polycarp Gankon, Governorship candidate of the party in Kaduna in the last election,  State Chairmen and Secretaries from the Northern States and all other Constitutionally recognized members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party.

The Communique  signed by Shinkafi and Polycarp Gankon  noted the preponderance of leaders  of Southeast extraction holding most of the positions in the National Working Committee of the party. Out the 29- man NWC, they alleged that 14 such positions are held south easterners, insisting the anomaly has to be corrected in the coming convention.

While calling on all party leaders to ensure unity in all the states, it  maintained that Article 18 of constitution of the party which deals with zoning of party positions should not be observed in the breach.

The communiqué also passed a vote of confidence on National Leader of the party and governor of Anambra State for what it said is excellent performance in office.
