Rio Ferdinand's plush Cheshire mansion 'slashed to half price

Rio Ferdinand made a huge loss on his plush mansion in Alderley Edge, Cheshire, slashing the price by an incredible fifty percent as he tried to offload the family home he once shared with his late wife.

The former Manchester United footballer, 40, originally put the vast house up for sale at £4.5million, but according to The Sun after another price drop to £3million, he dropped it again to £2million for the sale earlier this year.

Rio, who proposed to ex TOWIE star Kate Wright, 26, last month, once shared the home with his late wife Rebecca Ellison and their three children, before her death from cancer three years ago at the age of 34.

Insiders claim Rio was keen to sell up in Cheshire as he is now based in London with Kate and his children, and is desperate to move on from the seven-bedroom house.

A source said: 'This house holds many happy memories. But Rio's life is in London and he's trying to move on.

'He got engaged to Kate recently with the blessing of his children and there is no need for them to keep hold of this place 200 miles away.'

Representatives for Rio have been contacted by MailOnline for comment.
