Gillian McKeith, 59, insists her outlandish outfits are worn to empower less confident women.

Gillian McKeith has defended her right to wear wildly revealing outfits as she approaches her 60th birthday, and admits she wants to empower less confident women to wear what they want without fear of judgement.

The former You Are What You Eat presenter has developed a growing reputation for wearing outlandish, independently designed gowns and dresses Рoften with a risqu̩ flourish - following her memorable appearance at a UK premiere in October.

On that occasion the Scottish star, 59, divided opinion in a garish woven cape dress, designed to look like a series of intricately woven cobwebs, over a tight-fitting black bodysuit that fully exposed her legs.

And she insists she will continue to wear what she wants on the red carpet because it sends a powerful message to other women, while boosting her own self-confidence.

‘Self-expression should be celebrated whatever you wear,’ she said during an appearance on Wednesday morning’s edition of This Morning.

‘Women get to a certain age when we’re supposed to wear Victorian clothing, buttoned up, but everyone’s entitled to wear what they want.

'If I wore something frumpy and fuddy-duddy I wouldn’t be happy. If I went places trying to wear things to please others, I would be unhappy.’

The presenter, famed for repeatedly fainting while appearing on reality show I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! in 2010, opted for another striking outfit as she took her place on the sofa alongside daughter Skylar, 24, a law graduate.

And Gillian admitted the creation, an embellished bodice and sheer skirt teamed with glittering lilac platform boots, had been hand picked by her daughter.
