Armed police chase 'gunman' sprinting along road 'pointing a pistol' before shooting man

Armed police have shot a man during an early morning pre-planned operation in south West London.

The man, whose age is not yet known, was shot in Lacock Close, Wimbledon, at around 8.10am and a second man has been arrested for conspiracy to rob.

The operation was being conducted by officers from the Met's anti-robbery Flying Squad and they were assisted by firearms colleagues.

Witnesses described seeing an 'man wearing red' sprinting and 'pointing a pistol' before the man was shot.

A witness, who did not want to be named, told GetWestLondon that they heard a loud 'bang' at around 8.10am and saw a man, who they 'weren't sure was undercover police or not' wearing red and running with a 'pistol.'

They added that almost immediately after two undercover cars 'put on their sirens and pulled a U turn back up Haydons Road.'

He claimed all the people involved in the apparent chase then went up North Road.

The local resident added that he later saw one of the 'undercover officers' who was  'holding the large gun' coming back down the road to 'collect his police cap that he was not wearing.'
