Strictly fans have failed to vote for Ashley Roberts as she landed in the dance off for a third consecutive week.
But Arlene Phillips fiercely defended The Pussycat Dolls star's background in dancing during an appearance on This Morning on Tuesday ahead of the final at the weekend.
The former Strictly Come Dancing judge, 75, set the record straight as she insisted the singer, 37, 'just happens to be an exquisite dancer'.
She explained: 'No Strictly didn't get it wrong. Strictly has always had trained dancers on the show. Rachel Stevens was brilliant.
'It is because the Pussycat Dolls were a dance pop group. People know Ashley as a dancer but the truth is when she didn't do any dancing.
'We just saw her as Ashley Roberts the celebrity. It's very, very different... Dancers who have done different genres are not trained in that fine light detail.
'Ashley just happens to be an exquisite dancer. As a choreographer, she'd be my dream to work with.'
Arlene blasted angry fans for their 'unkind' behaviour towards Ashley and she reiterated the beauty wasn't any better than many of the dancers when she started.
The former Strictly judge pointed out no one complained about Jay McGuiness of The Wanted fame who went onto win the show in 2015 with Aliona Vilani.
