An exciting opportunity with MLS side DC United has prompted a move away from England and potential three and a half year stay in the United States.
But while Wayne Rooney wins new fans on the other side of the Atlantic, the sprawling mansion he will one day occupy with wife Coleen and their four children is nearing completion.
The enormous, 40-acre estate’s brick exterior appears to be reaching its final stages as builders work furiously to complete the project on open land in the Cheshire countryside.
New images also show the roof to be in a state of near completion, a vast difference to its tarpaulin covered state just three months ago.
Sliding sash windows have also been fitted across its living room, dining room and six bedrooms, although work still appears to be well underway on a mid-level balcony and two outbuildings, situated on either side of the main property.
Piles of building materials, diggers and a crane - looming high above the site - suggests considerable work still needs to be done before the Rooney's can move in.
Wayne and Coleen planned to move house for months after the family were left shaken when burglars broke into their home last August.
Previous images of the 40-acre site, taken in May, showed builders working on the roof, with all three floors of the sprawling property erected but a long way from completion.
The vast landscape was first pictured during snowfall in December 2017, but showed the construction on the ground floor is well under way.
