Plateau Imposes Curfew After Gunmen ‘Kill 14’

The government of Plateau state has imposed curfew on Jos north and Jos south local government areas of the state in the wake of the attacks which led to loss of lives between Thursday night and Friday morning.

According to TheCable, 14 persons were killed in the latest attacks after gunmen invaded a community in Rukuba Road, Jos north local government area and killed a family of seven.

The incident led to protest by angry women. The women were said to have burnt a military truck which conveyed soldiers to the scene, forcing the soldiers to allegedly open fire on them.

Richard Tokma, Secretary to the State Government, confirmed the curfew in a statement sent to newsmen on Friday.

“Sequel to security breach in some parts of the Jos North, Gov. Simon Lalong, has approved the imposition of a disk-to-down curfew from 6: P.M to 6: A.M in Jos North and Jos South LGAs with immediate effect.

“However, while assuring of lives and properties of the people, citizens are advised to exercise restrain to remain calm and report any suspicious movement to the law enforcement agents,” Mr Tokma said.

Earlier, the police confirmed the killings on Thursday night, saying security has been improved in the area.

Terna Tyopev, spokesman, Plateau police command, confirmed the attacks but did not give details of casualty.

He said some others who sustained injuries have been taken to the hospital.

“Some people were rescued while some persons lost their lives as a result of the attack and others sustained injuries of various degrees,” he said.
