Are Benedict Cumberbatch and his wife expecting their third child?

Benedict Cumberbatch is expecting his third child with wife Sophie Hunter, according to E! News.

The theatre director, who welcomed their second son Hal just over a year ago, appeared to display a blossoming bump as the couple graced the 70th Annual Emmy Awards on Monday night.

Sources told PEOPLE that Sophie, 40, was also spotted cradling and resting her crossed arms atop her tummy as the couple attended the post-show Emmy Awards Governors Ball later that evening.

MailOnline has contacted Benedict's representative for comment. 

The British playwright opted for billowing frocks that brushed over her tummy at the event, first sporting a vibrant yellow dress, before changing into a demure black lace mid-length design for the post-awards celebrations.

If reports are true, their pending arrival will be their third in just four years, as the couple are already proud parents to sons Hal Auden, 18 months, and 3-year-old Christopher 'Kit' Carlton.

Sophie and Benedict, who have been friends for 20 years, took their romance public in spring 2014, before tying the knot the following year - months before the playwright gave birth to son Kit.  


In 2016, Benedict revealed some of his fans - famously known as 'Cumberb****es' - claimed his family unit is in fact an elaborate PR stunt.

Hitting out at the rumours, he stated: 'There are people who believe that my wife is a PR stunt and my child is a PR stunt. I think really it's to do with the idea that the 'Internet's boyfriend' can't actually belong to anyone else but the Internet.

'It's impossible he belongs to anyone but me. And that's what stalking is. That's what obsessive, deluded, really scary behaviour is."
