The Crown's Olivia Colman cuts a regal figure

She is set to take on the role of Queen Elizabeth II from Claire Foy in the eagerly-anticipated third series of The Crown.

And Olivia Colman, 44, looked sensational as she headed out at the 75th annual Venice International Film Festival on Thursday, where her on-screen predecessor Claire, 34, was also present. 

Olivia cut an effortlessly regal figure in a chic black jumpsuit while Claire showed off her sartorial prowess in a striking floral dress. 

Olivia flaunted her flair for fashion in the gorgeous figure-skimming number, which she teamed with a eye-catching silver pendant. 

A pair of black tinted shades complemented her short brunette locks and she enhanced her features with a glamorous coat of make-up. 

Accessorising with a red clutch, Olivia looked in high spirits as she waved to on-lookers while making her way through the sunshine. 

Olivia was rivalled on the style front by Claire, who looked flirty in a billowing halterneck floral number. 

The star's pixie cut effortlessly framed her striking features which were enhanced with a rosy coat of blusher and mascara. 

She too was unable to wipe the smile from her face as she continued on about her day at the glamorous annual event.  

While Olivia has taken over the role of Queen Elizabeth II from Claire Foy, actor Tobias Menzies will resume the role of Prince Philip from Matt Smith in the news series. 

 They are joined on the star-studded cast list by Helena Bonham Carter, who will star as Princess Margaret, Jason Watkins as former Prime Minister Harold Wilson, and The Durrells star Josh O'Connor, who will play an older Prince Charles.
