President Trump BACKS Theresa May's Brexit vision and says US-UK relationship is 'the highest level of special'

Donald Trump today held Theresa May's hand and apologised for his claims she was wrecking Brexit saying: 'Whatever you do is OK with us'.

In an extraordinary press conference at Chequers, a contrite Mr Trump said there was 'bond like no other' between Britain and the United States and said their 'indispensable' relationship was 'the highest level of special'.

Mr Trump insisted he 'absolutely' believes the US will do a 'fantastic' trade deal with the UK, provided Brexit leaves UK free from interference from Brussels, 24 hours after he said it was dead.

Looking directly at Mrs May he said: 'I don't know what they are going to do but whatever you do is OK with me. Just make sure we are able to trade together'.

He added: 'Brexit, that's a tough deal. She's going to do the best. You can't walk away because if she walks away that means she's stuck'.

But when Mr Trump suggested that 'perhaps'  Britain would not leave the EU 'once the Brexit process is concluded' - Mr May shot back: 'I heard the turn of phrase the President used. Let me be very clear about this, we will be leaving the European Union on March 29 2019 and we will be delivering on what people voted for'.

The US president, who will meet the Queen for the first time at Windsor Castle later, also dismissed his incendiary Brexit interview with The Sun last night as 'fake news', revealing he apologised to her this morning and she replied: 'Don't worry'.

He added: 'This incredible woman is doing a fantastic job - I would much have her as my friend than my enemy. I have got to know Theresa May much better over the last two days than in the past year and a half. Yesterday I had breakfast, lunch and dinner with her, I'm having breakfast and lunch with her today'.

Mrs May then reassured the President they were still 'good friends' despite the turmoil of the past 24 hours and said her Brexit plan 'provides the platform for Donald and me' to strike an 'ambitious' trade deal.

She said: 'We will do a trade deal with them and with others around the rest of the world'.
