One dead as Dalung, Akoh’s convoy involves in fatal accident

One of the vehicles on a convoy of the Minister of Sports and Youths Development, Bar. Solomon Dalung, and the National Commandant of Peace Corps, Dr. Dickson Akoh, was involved in a fatal motor accident Saturday afternoon along Gombe-Bauchi highway, at about 12pm.

The accident which occurred about 22kms to Gombe town from the Gombe State airport, reportedly left one person dead while several others sustained various degrees of injuries.

The accident occurred while a delegation led by the acting President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Comrade Mayor Chinedu, and the NYCN Board of Trustees Chairman, Dr. Dickson Akoh picked the Minister from the airport to witness the 2018 Unity Convention and election of new officials of NYCN currently taking place in Gombe.

It was gathered that a Peugeot 406 heading in the opposite direction lost control and rammed into the Minister’s convoy. A hummer bomber bus and a Prado Jeep among the Minister’s convoy were damaged beyond repairs after somersaulting several times.

Speaking with newsmen at FMC, the officer in charge of Gombe state Marshals, Sunday Jika, denied the version of the story that the accident was caused by the minister’s convoy. He said the accident was caused by the 406 driver, whom he claimed was suffering from epilepsy.
