George Clooney leans on rails for support as he hobbles onto private jet with wife Amal

George Clooney was spotted boarding a private jet to make his way out of Sardinia on Thursday morning, days after he was injured in a scooter crash.

Accompanied by his wife Amal Clooney, the Hollywood actor appeared slightly frail,. as he leaned on the rails to help himself up the jet's stairs ahead of making their journey home with their baby twins Ella and Alexander.

Wearing a crisp white polo top and cream linen trousers, the Oscar-winning screen star also sported cuts and grazes on his arm from his shocking accident, which occurred on Tuesday when a driver ploughed into him.

The Italian grandfather who smashed into George Clooney's scooter in Sardinia on Tuesday has told how he did not see the actor coming because the sun was in his eyes.

Antonelli Viglino, 65, had come to a stop and was about to turn left, crossing Clooney's path, when the actor plowed into him, reportedly at a speed of 60mph.

Terrifying video of the collision shows Clooney being flung from his bike and landing on the ground.

Miraculously, he survived with no head injuries and some damage to his pelvis.

Viglino said he was stunned to learn who Clooney was once his helmet had been removed.

He likened the accident to the famous Nespresso commercial in which the actor appears, saying he introduced himself to the firefighters and others at the scene by saying: 'I'm George'.

'I didn't see anything, I had the sun on my eyes. I was about to turn, I just got over the line,' Mr. Viglino told the Italian newspaper Il Giornale.

Mr. Viglino, who is a plumber, was on his way to work to perform maintenance on a villa on the island.
