Arsenal Announce Signing of Uruguay’s Lucas Torreira
Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Uruguay’s midfielder, Lucas Torreira, from Sampdoria on a long-term contract.
The 22-year-old completed his move from Serie A side Sampdora to Premier League club, Arsenal FC.
The Uruguayan international, who impressed at this summer’s World Cup in Russia and featured in all of his country’s matches, joins from the Serie A for a fee believed to be in the region of £25m.
He joins right-back Stefan Lichtsteiner, goalkeeper Bernd Leno and central defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos as arrivals at the Emirates this summer as new manager Unai Emery reshapes his first-team squad.

Speaking on his signing, Head coach Unai Emery said: “In Lucas Torreira, we have signed a young player who is a very bright talent in the game.
A midfielder with great quality, I have enjoyed watching his performances for Sampdoria in the past two seasons, and we all saw him do very well for Uruguay in the World Cup. He is a young player already with good experience, but who wants to keep on growing. We welcome Lucas to Arsenal and look forward to him joining us soon for pre-season.”
The deal is subject to the completion of regulatory processes.
Torreira shined with Uruguay in Russia in their deep run to the World Cup quarterfinals. He made 74 appearances in Serie A for Sampdoria, scoring 4 goals.
He will wear the number 11 shirt.
