How often should you change the Engine oil in your car ?

The Engine oil is one of the most important constituent of the engine and it has been referred to as the lifeblood of your car’s engine in many parts.

The engine oil has a number of function, and it is most importantly used to lubricate all the internal moving parts and also help keep the components of your car powerhouse from overheating.

However, like most things about your car, the engine oil needs to be changed after some time. It is especially important to note that changing oil is an extremely important part of keeping your engine in good operating condition.

The dilemma that a lot of car owners however face is the right time to change their oil. The fact is almost every car comes with a manual that can help you determine these things but same cannot be said for when you buy a used car.

Furthermore, some cars have a service interval counter which is built into the vehicle’s dashboard, while other cars do not. If your car does not have a built-in system, you may want to look for apps or use reminders. You can also look at your car manual to see the recommended interval.

Depending on the type of car you drive and the type of oil in it, it’s typically recommended that you change the oil every 5,000 to 12,000 kilometres, and replace the oil filter each time.

It’s good to know the reasons why cars have different oil change intervals, as well as the right type of oil to use in your engine as this can either extend or shorten the life of the most important part of your car.

If it’s time to change your oil and filter, ensure that you do so at a competent mechanic workshop. Not only is it important that competent hands do your oil change, but that can also help you detect any latent faults in your car.
