Poldark's Aidan Turner reveals he rides a small horse on the show to make him look taller.

He has previously admitted he had no experience with horses, prior to his appearance on the show.

And Aidan Turner has now revealed the tricks behind his impressive riding ability on BBC's Poldark, ahead of the much-anticipated fourth series.

Speaking to Radio Times, the actor, 34, admitted he rides a shorter horse on the series in order to make him look taller - before joking his trousers have only got tighter over the years, to the inevitable delight of fans.

The star confessed that Seamus - the horse he rides on the show - had not been his first choice during the casting process, having preferred another steed called Jonny Wilkinson.

However, he revealed his trainer had 'cleverly' convinced him to take Seamus on instead, as he actually enhanced his appearance onscreen.

He recalled: 'He said 'You look great on Jonny, but you look better on Seamus – he's smaller, so he makes you look bigger.' I immediately switched horse! He certainly knew what to say to convince me.'

Despite their rocky start, Aidan and Seamus have since bonded during filming - with the actor revealing he pets and cuddles him a lot on set.

The Irishman gushed: 'When you're filming with a horse and putting your life into his hands, you have to trust him and I completely trust Seamus.

'He is so experienced – his CV is probably better than mine! He's a big celebrity these days.'
