Fans are given a behind the scenes look at complex camera rigging used to film show

Fans will be hoping to get a satisfactory resolution when Peter Kay’s Car Share airs its much anticipated finale on Monday evening.

The hugely popular show about a supermarket assistant manager’s slow burning romance with his promotions rep during their participation in a company car-sharing scheme has captured the hearts of viewers since launching in 2015.

But they were disappointed when the couple failed to take their platonic relationship to the next stage after promotions rep Kayleigh, played by Sian Gibson, confessed her love for Kay’s John Redmond during its season two finale.

Monday's stand-alone show may well provide the ending many fans want, with Kay opting to write one last episode following a largely mixed response to John's stuttering reaction to Kayleigh's frank admission.

With anticipation building, fans have also been given a first look at the intricate camera rigging required to film Kay and Gibson during their car sharing interactions.

No less than five cameras, four microphones and a built in speaker used to issue driving directions fill the modest Fiat 500 used by the show's two stars.

It's understood that technicians spent four months installing the rig into the small car's interior, while a further three months were spent testing its cameras before a single scene was filmed.

A scanner truck wirelessly monitors all equipment to deal with changing weather conditions, and with it an inevitable change in natural light, while shooting the show.

Producer Martin Riley told BroadcastNow: 'I’ve been involved with the build of a number of bespoke rigs over the years, and a couple of reality-style shows based in cars and taxis, but nothing quite like this one.

'Put simply, we were tasked with filming two people in car and the real challenge was making what is a very complicated rig feel simple and effortless in the final programme.'
