Deontay Wilder claims he'll take over cruiserweight once he has unified heavyweight division as Anthony Joshua talks reach crucial stage

Deontay Wilder is already thinking beyond a fight with Anthony Joshua with claims he wants to 'take over' the cruiserweight division too.

In the latest hint of an impending fight with Joshua, the indirect trash talking continued as Wilder suggested he was thinking about what to do once he had all five heavyweight belts.

Currently he only holds the WBC heavyweight belt but has done so for over three years after making seven successful defences.

Speaking to his fans on Instagram, Wilder said: 'What's up boxing world. You know I've just been sitting in my car thinking. I've been thinking about, once I unify the heavyweight division, moving down to the cruiserweight and taking over that division.

'There's never been a heavyweight ever go down in weight. I mean just for the fun of it, just take over the cruiserweight division while maintaining the heavyweight division. Yeah, what do you guys think?'

It could be more challenging than Wilder makes it sound. He would have to lose significant weight and it would likely take more than a one-off fight with the division not currently unified.

Failing to regularly defend any of the belts in either division would see him forced into vacating it too. This is the reason former WBC cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew lost his title during the long David Haye rivalry.
