Swansea have confirmed midfielder Jefferson Montero has joined Ecuadorian side Emelec for the rest of the season, in what looks to be a first of its kind – a sub-loan.
Montero has been in Spain with Getafe on loan from the Liberty Stadium all season, but now they have sent him out on a temporary deal despite not owning the 28-year-old.
The move is subject to international clearance.
Jefferson Montero signed for Swansea from Mexican club Morelia in July 2014, having featured for Ecuador at the 2014 World Cup.
He has scored twice in 72 appearances, and has two years remaining on his contract with the Welsh club.
