Kano To Hold Elections In 44 LGAs On Saturday

The Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) has said that arrangements have been concluded for the conduct of elections in all the 44 local government areas of the state on Saturday, February 10, 2018.
According to the Chairman KANSIEC, Professor Garba Ibrahim Sheka, non-sensitive election materials had been distributed to all the local government areas, while sensitive materials would be distributed today (Friday).
The Chairman also disclosed that necessary arrangements ranging from posting of electoral officers, provision of logistics and election materials and security had been made to ensure a hitch-free exercise.
It is understood that about 25 political parties, including leading the All Progressive Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), are expected to participate in Saturday’s local government elections.

It was also gathered that about 12, 000 security personnel have been deployed to the 44 local government areas to provide security during the elections.

Addressing a press conference yesterday, the Kano State police spokesman, DSP Magaji Musa Majia, said the security personnel included police, military, DSS, NSCDC, immigration, customs, prisons, NDLEA and FRSC.
Majia, however, said no state government-owned security apparatus such as Hisbah, KAROTA or voluntary organisations such as vigilantes, Boys’ Scout and Man ‘O’ War would be allowed to wear uniforms or engage in any activity in uniform on the day of the elections.
