Alexandre Lacazette scored his first goal for Arsenal, as they defeated Sydney FC 2-0 in a pre-season friendly, played on Thursday in Australia.
The former Lyon striker who became the Gunners’ most expensive signing this month, started the game from the bench, as Arsene Wenger’s squad began preparations for next season in earnest.
Captain for the day, Per Mertesacker, gave Arsenal the lead, volleying in a loose ball inside the area.
The Premier League club continued to dominate the game, but failed to add to that goal, until Lacazette was introduced from the bench.
The 26-year-old showed sharp predatory instincts, to slot home a low cross from Alex Iwobi, only 15 minutes after he came on.
Wenger’s men play Western Sydney Wanderers on Saturday, before travelling to China, with games against Bayern Munich in Shanghai and Chelsea in Beijing next week.
