The joint Union of the three Delta State owned Polytechnics of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic ASUP, Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics, SSANIP as well as the
Non-Academic Staff Union, NASU have embarked on indefinite strike following Delta State Government's disposition to the plights of its members, DAILY POST reports.
In a statement signed by the Joint Union's Chairman, Comrade Thomas Ojuye and made available to DAILY POST, the unions lamented the failure of the State Government to begin full implementation of the new revised scheme of services for polytechnics and other similar etertiary institutions in Nigeria, stoppage of promotion from Consolidated Tertiary Institution Salary Scheme, CONTISS 11 to 13, non- implementation of migration of technologists,
executive and technical officers, instructors and confidential secretaries cadre on CONTISS 12 and above.
The Joint Unions also bemoaned the migration of CONTISS 11 and below, stoppage of payment
of promotion arrears, withdrawal of 65 years retirement policy, dismissal of Chairmen of ASUP and NASU in Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, and the recent law enforce on the acquisition of PhD certificates as prerequisites for promotion to the post of Chief Lecturer.
The strike commenced sinceMay 30th.
Comrade Ojuye also warned that any lecturer who failed to adhere to the instruction of the Unions will be severely dealt with just as he noted that, a monitoring committee has been set up in the three polytechnics in the State for effective compliance with the Strike action.
