It is so easy to get pulled down by negative people. Just being around them makes you feel uneasy. They bring a cloud of doom with them wherever they go. But when you are on their radar, how do you detach from their grip? Here are some comebacks that may just do the trick.
1. See right through them
Don’t believe their fake demeanor; it’s just an act to get you in their clutches. Don’t be seduced by their gossip or petty remarks. Refrain from commenting or interacting with them–that will only fuel the fire.
2. Expect not to feel great in their company
You may not know why they have the impact they do on you, but just accepting that can put you in a bad mood, makes it a little easier to avoid their negativity. It will help you to realize that it’s not you, it’s their bad vibes that are causing your discontent.
3. No response is the best response
Don’t react. Just detach from them as best as possible.
Walk away, to the other side of the room if you can’t leave. If you can, put on headphones and listen to music or do your work in another area of the office. Stay as far away from them as possible.
4. Have compassion because they must be miserable
Think of what their life must really be like. If they are so negative, how must they feel about themselves? There could be an underlying reason for their bad behavior, and your kindness could make a difference in how they see themselves or handle the situation. But, don’t let them take advantage of you. Your kindness can only go so far.
5. Accept who they are, and don’t try to change them
You are probably a kind person and like to lend a helping hand, but they are not your assignment. Bless them and let them go.
