Biafra: Intimidation can’t stop us from separating from Nigeria – BIM

The leadership of pro-Biafra group, Biafra Independent Movement, BIM, has stated that no amount of intimidation from police and other security agencies will stop its struggle for the separation of the South Eastern part of the country from Nigeria.

The group said this while calling on the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris to order the Ebonyi State Police Command to bring back all its properties that were unlawfully carted away during its raid on the premises of the group in 2013.

Addressing newsmen in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, leader of BIM in Ebonyi state, Nwifuru John who gave the list of the items with the police to include, ID cards, 6 pairs of boots, uniforms, 48 plastic chairs and N250,000 cash.

He further accused the police of regular intimidation, harassment and unlawful arrest and detention of members of MASSOB in the state.

His words, “As freedom fighters, no amount of persecution and intimidation would deter the group from pursuing its core objective of actualizing the sovereign state of Biafra in the near future.”

The group also accused the police of disobeying court verdicts which had ordered the police to pay compensation of N2 million and N5 million respectively for damages against the group.

He further described the BIM as a non-violent organization and wondered why the police were in the habit of disobeying court orders in favour of the group.
