Delta Assembly member, Udoh, dies in London

The member representing Warri South Constituency 1 at the Delta State House of Assembly, Mrs. Omawumi Udoh, is dead.

Sources told our correspondent that the lawmaker died in a London hospital after battling with a protracted health challenge on Wednesday morning.

She was 56 years old.

Dependable sources told our correspondent that the fourth-term lawmaker died of a cancer-related ailment. She was of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Udoh was reinstated by the Court of Appeal in Benin after she lost the 2015 state assembly election to Mr. Godwin Abigor of the Accord Party.

Some of her colleagues in the assembly confirmed the development when contacted on Wednesday by our correspondent.



The Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Mr. Monday Igbuya, also confirmed her death in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Henry Ebireri.

While describing Omawumi’s death as a rude shock to the assembly, Igbuya described her as a dogged fighter who had the interest of her constituents.

He added that the assembly would greatly miss her.
