TV bosses pressured me into marriage

Anne Diamond says she'll never wed again after divorce from ex Mike Hollingsworth 17 years ago

Anne Diamond has revealed she felt pressured into marrying her now ex-husband Mike Hollingsworth during her 1980s TV heyday.

Speaking during an appearance on Loose Women on Thursday, the TV presenter said she hadn't been interested in tying the knot with Mike - then a TV executive at ITV morning show TV-AM.

‘I didn’t want to get married. I was pressured into it,' she told the show. 'I can’t think of a reason for wanting to get married again.’

The 62-year-old star, who divorced Mike back in 1999, said she no longer believes in marriage and finds it difficult to start romantic relationships.

‘I put up a barrier (when it comes to romance),' she revealed. 'I know I do, I don’t know why I do that.

‘If you ask me what I would most want in the world, it would be financial independence for the rest of my life,' she added.

A few days ago, Anne also discussed feeling pressure to tie the knot with Mike after she fell pregnant with their first son Oliver before their 1989 nuptials.

'There was a lot of pressure for me because I was Britain's most famous unmarried mother back in 1987,' she told the show.

'That was the headline, it was scandalous then. I came under a lot of pressure from my employers.'
