Sokoto State Government says it will save over N200 million annually with the recent transfer of 39 students from various universities in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) to BAZE University, Abuja.
The state Commissioner of Finance, Alhaji Sa’idu Umar, made this known in Sokoto on Friday while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting.
“The Sokoto State Executive Council on Friday approved the transfer of 39 indigenes sponsored to study in Dubai to Baze University, Abuja.
“The transfer followed the recommendation of the committee set up by the state government to find suitable universities for the students in Nigeria.
“This is due to the economic challenges being faced in the country, which necessitated the transfer, to reduce the cost of study sponsorship.”
He added that the state government was hitherto sponsoring the students at the cost of over N300 million yearly.
”But at BAZE university, the state government will spend not more than N 100 million,” Umar said.
He said that all students on transfer would continue from the levels of study they were at their various universities in Dubai.
