Casualty star collapsed while filming on set - and had to be rushed to Holby City

The cast of TV’s Casualty were hit with a real-life emergency when a guest actor collapsed on set and was rushed for treatment – at Holby City.

Brian Jackson – best known for the Man from Del Monte adverts – was filming the BBC medical drama when he fell and injured his leg and arm.

The 85-year-old was whisked off to get help from a doctor who happened to be working at the nearby Holby set, based in the studios in Cardiff.

Brian couldn’t hide his disbelief when he realised he was being taken into a cubicle used for filming on the rival show – and even asked whether the person treating him was a real medic or an actor.

“The doctor came in and I had to ask him if he was qualified,” he said.

“He laughed and reassured me he was real. I thought if he asks me to drop my kecks then I should be worried!

“I had a headache and I was crossing a walkway which wasn’t as wide as I thought and I lost my footing. I fell and hurt my leg, knee and elbow.

“Two burly security men came from nowhere and hoisted me up.

“People were very concerned – they thought I’d seriously injured myself.

“They sent me off to see a doctor. I couldn’t believe it when I realised they were taking me to the Holby City set.

"He just happened to be there as he was advising on a scene.”

After being reassured that the doctor was the real deal, Brian was looked over and told he might have a broken leg.
