Game Of Thrones Certainly To End After Season 8, But Expect A Spinoff

There are strong indications that American fantasy drama television series, Game of Thrones, would definitely be coming to an end after its eighth season, amid discussions of a spinoff

The announcement was made by Casey Bloys, HBO’s new programming chief, at the Television Critics Association press tour in Los Angeles on Saturday.

Bloys stated that there are only two more seasons left. He combined this with the fact that season seven will be shorter than normal, and it will be delayed.

The HBO president also disclosed that the station will abide by the wishes of David Benioff and Dan Weiss, the two men behind the hit series – both of whom believe that the show should come to a natural end after eight seasons.

“Believe me, as the new programming president coming in, if I could get them to do more, I would take 10 more seasons. But we take their lead on what they think they can do the best version of the show,” Mr Bloys said.

As for the specific number of episodes, season seven is “locked in” at seven. However, season eight may have more or less.

“They know we’ll take as many as they’ll give us,” Bloys said.

The seventh series, which begins next summer, will have seven episodes rather than 10.

He added: “Now that winter has arrived on Game of Thrones, executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss felt that the storylines of the next season would be better served by starting production a little later than usual, when the weather is changing.”

“Instead of the show’s traditional spring debut, we’re moving the debut to summer to accommodate the shooting schedule.”

Although Game of Thrones will be ending, Mr Bloys did not dismiss the possibility of a spin off series.

“We’ve talked about it. It’s something I’m not opposed to, but of course it has to make sense creatively.”
