Transfer news live as #Arsenal, #ManchesterUnited and #Liverpool all get down to business

Crystal Palace have submitted an improved £31.5million bid for Liverpool striker Christian Benteke.

The offer for the £120,000-a-week Belgian shatters Palace’s transfer record and is expected to be accepted by the Anfield club.

Palace had a £25million bid for him rejected last week but have put forward a new offer of £27million plus add-ons with boss Alan Pardew determined to land him.

Benteke, 25, is desperate to quit Liverpool after a nightmare debut season which saw him end up as a fringe player under Jurgen Klopp.

Benteke arrived from Aston Villa last summer, signed by Brendan Rodgers. But he ended the season with just 10 goals in 42 appearances.

The Eagles, who saw Chelsea gazump their £31million move for Marseille’s Michy Batshuayi last week, believe they will fend off West Ham, who continue to have Lyon frontman Alexandre Lacazette as their first choice option.

Blaise Matuidi has had a busy morning if reports on the other side of the Channel are anything to go by.
According to Goal France, the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder hopped on a plane this morning for a flying visit to the UK, in order to push forward a move to the Premier League.
They don’t say his likely destination, but Manchester United and Chelsea have been linked with him in the past.
Matuidi played in France’s 5-2 demolition of Iceland on Sunday night and is returning in time to participating in a training session at 6pm French time, according to Goal.
One to monitor.
