Oyo State Governor Ajimobi has assured the people that the killers of a member of the House of Assembly, Gideon Aremu, will be arrested.
Speaking when he visited Aremu’s family home on Monday, Ajimobi decried that the incident had blotted the peace the state had boasted of recently.
Condoling with the deceased wife, Mrs. Bukola Aremu and children, Ajimobi assured them of his administration’s support.
“It was an untimely and tragic death that has disrupted the otherwise peaceful environment the state is proud of.
“You remember that since 2011, we have maintained peace. We have never had political assassinations. Even robbery, thuggery and brigandage reduced considerably. This is the first time in our government that we will have such a tragic event, particularly a member of the House of Assembly so callously murdered.
“We sympathise with the family and promise that not only shall we find the murderers, we will also ensure that wesupport the family. The children and wife are young. By the grace of God, whoever was responsible will be caught,” Ajimobi said.
The Chairman, Senate Committee on ICT and Cybercrime, Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, yesterday condemned the murder.
Buhari, who represents Oyo North, expressed shock at the murder, describing it as a great loss to the people of Oorelope, Oke-Ogun and Oyo State.
“Though we are not from the same party, we share the vision of contributing greatly to the development and advancement of Oke-Ogun and its people,” he said.
Buhari prayed that God would grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss.
He urged security operatives to ensure a thorough investigation into the matter and arraignment of the killers.
The late Aremu will be buried at his home town, Igboho, Oorelope Local Government, tomorrow.
His colleagues will hold a valedictory plenary before the funeral. Aremu’s body will lay-in-state in the chamber.
