Imagine Cup 2016: We will make Nigeria proud – Team #Nigeria - Vanguard

Team Humane from Obafemi Awolowo University, O.A.U , Ile- Ife, who arrived Seattle, Washington, the United States of America , yesterday to join other smart tech students around the for the ongoing 2016 Microsoft Imagine Cup worldwide finals has expressed optimism, saying that they will make Nigeria proud in their global showcase today before panel of judges.

Microsoft’s Imagine Cup is the world’s most prestigious student technology competition, bringing together student innovators from all over the world. This follows their impressive outing in the regional finals that qualified them for the worldwide finals currently holding in the home of Microsoft, Seattle, Washington.


Their selection for global show means that software Nigeria has global competitiveness. They will showcase a solution called Humane which simplifies mobile apps for the visually impaired Meanwhile, out of 35 Teams from around the world selected for final showcase, Nigeria is the only country from West Africa flying the continent flag. Similarly, South Africa and Tunisia are also among the countries from Africa flying the continent flag.

It would be recalled that more than 150 top teams from National Finals events had pitched on World Semi-finals, where they were judged by a global panel of MVPs, industry experts and Microsoft staff. Team Nigeria had developed a solution called Humane which simplifies mobile apps for the visually impaired.

 It defines a new approach for mobile app development for the visually impaired. By connecting their three button device to their humane software, the visually impaired can surf the web, play music, use calculator, control home appliances, make calls, check the time or date and use the camera to determine what is in front.

In addition to the current features a linear and Braille keyboard is included. Spokesperson of Team Nigeria, Obasegun Ayodele, while speaking to Vanguard H-Tech said they were ready for global showcasing, assuring that they will make Nigeria proud. According to him, the Humane platform is a billion possibilities controlled by three buttons in a small device.

“I have never been more confident about a team. I truly believe in their solution and the impact it can have globally. I know they will make Nigeria proud at the World Finals.”, Kendra Nnachi, Audience Evangelism Manager, Microsoft Nigeria said.
