Glasgow bus crash: Double decker 'smashes into multiple vehicles causing casualties' in busy city centre - Mirror

The vehicle is believed to have careered down a hill, through several junctions, before crashing into other buses and a blue car

A runaway double decker bus has smashed into traffic in Glasgow city centre this afternoon.

The vehicle is believed to have careered down a hill, through several junctions, before crashing into other buses and a blue car, it's reported.

Witnesses say the driver of the bus had gone into a shop and left the handbrake off and could be seen chasing down Renfield Street in attempt to get back on board.

Arran Watkins, who says he was at the scene of the smash, wrote on his Facebook: “The bus driver went into the shop and left the hand brake off and collided with the blue car with then hit a young boy and then veered down the street and hit two other buses with passengers on it”.

Another onlooker told the Evening Times: "It was terrifying, the bus was out of control. I hope the driver of the car is okay. He's in an ambulance."

The bus is believed to have been empty, although there were passengers on the other buses involved in the crash.

At least four buses are believed to have been involved in the crash as well as one car.

Several people on the scene told Glasgow Live that the bus driver had been seen chasing after the bus in an attempt to get back on board and stop the vehicle.

Several cars were damaged in the crash and one man has been taken to hospital.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Around 3.45pm, police received a report of a bus having struck a male pedestrian on Renfield Street near to West George Street, Glasgow.

"Emergency services are at the scene and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident.”
