#SerenaWilliams named highest-paid sportswoman

Serena William has overtaken Maria Sharapova as the highest-paid sportswoman in the world according to Forbes.
The American tennis star, who lost to Garbine Muguruza in the French Open final last weekend, banked $28.9 million over the past 12 months.

Williams has dominated her sport for more than a decade, but Sharapova was adjudged to be the biggest earner, thanks to her endorsements with Nike, American Express, Porsche and TAG Heuer.

However, Sharapova has lost some of her financial standing, as some of these big companies have dumped her since her doping scandal.

The Russian earned $21.9 million over the past 12 months, down almost $8 million from the previous year.

American mixed martial arts star, Ronda Rousey, is thirwd on the list with an income of $14 million, just ahead of NASCAR stock car driver Danica Patrick, who earned $13.9 million.
