Jo Cox murder suspect Tommy Mair tells court "my name is death to traitors, freedom for Britain"

The man accused of murdering MP Jo Cox told a court "my name is death to traitors, freedom for Britain".

Mrs Cox, 41, was attacked in the street outside her constituency surgery in Birstall, near Leeds, at lunchtime on Thursday.

Tommy Mair appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court charged with her murder this morning.

He appeared in the dock behind reinforced glass wearing a grey tracksuit and spoke only when asked to confirm his name.

The 52-year-old faces charges of murder, grievous bodily harm, possession of a firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence and possession of an offensive weapon.


The Batley and Spen MP and mum-of-two suffered fatal gunshot and stab wounds and died a short time later in hospital.
