Eleven people were arrested after thugs clashed with riot police at the famous Epsom Derby.
Terrified innocent families with young children cowered and were forced to dodge hundreds of flying bottles as violence erupted at the end of the prestigious event, which was attended by 100,000 people including the Queen.
Dramatic footage taken on a mobile phone shows race-goers ducking to avoid the missiles as groups of young men are seen lashing out at shield-wielding officers.
One shocked eyewitness described how he saw yobs hurl empty bottles off an open top bus.
The young man told the Mirror Online: "The music went off and then police started arresting people for stuff. It was proper scary, so many bottles flying.
"At one point, there were people fighting from an open top bus, throwing bottles."
He added that at least 300 people were involved in the violence yesterday, with around 500 or 600 'just watching or throwing bottles'.
Another race-goer, who attended the Derby with her friends and their kids, said they were forced to 'dodge police dogs and riot police' at the end of the day.
The woman tweeted: "Great day at the EpsomDerby! Although at the end we had to dodge police dogs and riot police with the kids!!"
Surrey Police said that a teenager suffered head and facial injuries and a police officer had a tooth knocked out as people hurled bottles near the main music stage.
The officer was taken to hospital for treatment for facial injuries and later discharged.
The force added that eight arrests were made by 6pm yesterday, including three for drug offences, two for assault and two public order offences.
One person wanted by police was also detained.
As the chaos got underway, some race-goers took to social media to express their shock at the drama.
