Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama Break Up After Nearly 6 Years of #Dating - E!

This just doesn't seem to be the week for young love.

Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama have announced through a joint statement on social media that they've decided to call it quits after nearly six years of dating.

"After almost 6 loving and wonderful years together, we have decided to end our relationship," the statement began.

"This was an incredibly difficult decision for both of us, but we have realized more than anything that we are better as best friends. We will always be supportive of one another. Thank you to everyone who has offered us kindness and support over the years."

No other details concerning their split have been revealed.

The news of their breakup comes as a huge shock to those who have followed their relationship. The singer and actor never shied away from gushing about one another, whether it be through lovey-dovey Instagram posts, or heartfelt interviews.

"He's very manly, and he can be stubborn like Latino men can, but he's protective and he cares so much and loves so hard. I've been blessed enough to have him in my life, and not just as my man, but also my best friend," Lovato told Latina magazine for their latest issue.

The celeb has also openly praised her beau for sticking by her side through many of her ups and downs in life, including her struggle with an eating disorder and weight. "I've been my heaviest in my relationship with Wilmer and also been my thinnest," she explained. "He's seen it all and loves me equally, and it gives me confidence to know that."

Wilmer echoed similar sentiments about his girl, calling Demi his "f--king soul mate" in a funny text conversation that surfaced online.

In fact, when Lovato called into a New Zealand radio station and was asked if she hoped to marry her beau soon, Lovato was as honest as ever. "I am very, very in love with him. I think—we will probably wait a little bit longer, but—if he asked tomorrow I would say yes," Lovato said.

The topic of marriage was often brought up with these two, and in February, Ellen DeGeneres made mention that she didn't see a ring on that finger, but Demi wasn't sweating it.

"We've been together this long..obviously I'm not going anywhere," she said.
