A nurse has apologised after using raunchy images of herself to promote her non-surgical cosmetic business.
Julia Knightley, who runs a clinic in Stockport, came under fire after posting provocative images, showing her in underwear, online.
Some argued it was unprofessional for the 37-year-old to advertise her business and products in such a way.
This sparked a social media debate on whether or not the photographs were appropriate.
The single mum-of-four accepts that she was naive for posting the tongue-in-cheek images, reports Manchester Evening News.
But she insisted they were tasteful, and that she has always used pictures of models wearing similar attire on her website, which have never received complaints.
Julia feels it has become a witch hunt, and that instead of offering useful feedback or criticism, some comments have just been nasty and insulting.
One woman posted:”It’s a shame that it appears it’s the same old story - sex sells, and there will be plenty of ill informed/naive potential patients who will be drawn in by the ‘glamour’.”
Another said: "This has to be a wind up. Who in their right mind could possibly think this could be a good advert.
"Maybe for a escort?”
But Julia said: “There were several images that I posted and I removed one as soon as I put it up as I didn’t think it was suitable.
“I’ve always advertised my business like that.
"The idea was to think outside of the box with our marketing strategy – there are lots of clinics about so we needed to make things a bit different so we stood out.
"The images were taken by a friend in December and were only posted in May, they were tongue in cheek but I accept that I was naive to post them.”
Julia claims that she operates a professional business adhering to all processes and policies with safety being a priority, and many clients have spoken out in support of her.
Danielle Pickett posted on The #safetyinbeauty Campaign Facebook page – which launched the debate – saying: “I had my lips done by Julia Knightley in March, I’m only 20, was my first time having my lips done, she dressed professionally.
"She gave me a full consultation prior, I followed appointment two weeks later, I was very pleased with my treatment but wanted to go bigger, she could of took money off me and [did] what I had asked but she gave me professional advice and told me not to go bigger.”
Matthew Taylor added: “I’ve had a skin treatment there for rosacea by Julia Knightley not so long ago.
"She was very professional in what she [did] and gave me a full consultation prior to getting the treatment done.
"She also gave me extra medical advice.”
Julia’s clinic offers a range of treatments including anti-wrinkle injections, skin peels, thread lifting and microdermabrasion.
It opened in July 2014, and Julia has been practising as a licensed and registered independent nurse prescriber since 2007.
She added: “There’s nothing more I can do than apologise.”
