Wiping her son’s face as she tries to stop him from wriggling away, Kate and Prince George look just like any mother and toddler.
Mother and son were even dressed in matching blue and white striped tops for the family day out to the Houghton Hall International Horse Trials near their Norfolk country home Anmer Hall on Saturday morning.
The Duchess, 34, was dressed down in the stripy jumper and casual trousers and had chosen, unusually, to scrape her brunette hair back with a leopard print headband.
Daughter Princess Charlotte, one , looked adorable wearing a blue hairclip and matching cardigan.
Prince William was seen holding his son and eating food from a paper plate before heading off to play polo with brother Harry in Ascot’s Coworth Park later in the day.
It is thought he took a helicopter from Norfolk to Ascot but a source said this would have been paid for privately as he was not carrying out official engagements.
The royals were supporting close friend Harry Meade who was taking part in the trials and was seen pictured sitting with the couple on Saturday.
He is the brother of James Meade who is Princess Charlotte’s godfather and an Eton schoolfriend of William.
An onlooker described how the royals looked relaxed and happy on Saturday and were “just sitting having a picnic and enjoying themselves like everybody else”.
