The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced the recovery of N900 million from Waripamowei Dudafa, former Special Assistant to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Punch reports.
The looted funds are said to have been recovered following Dudafa’s declaration that he had no money, despite N900 million having been discovered in one of his bank accounts.
Dudafa initially denied his affiliation with the account but soon had to admit to his lies following harsh interrogation by EFCC operatives.
Following his arrest on April 18 at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, Dudafa was implicated in a N10 billion oil deal scandal, in which he is alleged to have diverted oil receipts.
Embattled former National Security Adviser (NSA) Sambo Dasuki backed up the accusations, claiming that N10 billion was requested to be exchanged from the Office of the National Security Adviser domiciled in the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
“The money was for delegates that attended the nomination convention for the PDP presidential nomination.
The money was paid and sent to Hon. Dudafa (SSAP, Household) and ADC(C-I-C) for distribution on the instruction of the President,” stated Dasuki.
Dudafa's family have since expressed concerns over his health, claiming that the former aide is being denied access to adequate healthcare while in the custody of the EFCC, Leadership reports.
